BRYAN, Texas \u2014 <\/strong>More than three dozen families in Bryan and College Station received new car seats during a free safety event this month, part of an effort by Abogados de lesiones personales de Daniel Stark<\/a> and local partners to prevent child injuries on Texas roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The free event provided professional car seat inspections and distributed new child safety seats to families in need, helping keep every child safe on Texas roads. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mandi Weathers, a College Station resident and new mother, attended the event to ensure her nine-month-old’s car seat was installed correctly. “It\u2019s just peace of mind knowing that we\u2019re safe and we\u2019re ready to hit the road,\u201d Weathers said. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel Stark partnered once again with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Passenger Safety KidSafe Initiatives<\/a> y Save a Life Texas Department of Transportation<\/a> to conduct inspections and replace unsafe or outdated car seats. Technicians performed 86 inspections and provided 46 new car seats at no cost to families. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou never know who you impact and what kind of impact it has,\u201d Rachel Cooley, project director of Passenger Safety and KidSafe Initiatives at Texas A&M AgriLife, said.  \u201cThe car seat may not have been the most important thing to them; they may just need that validation that they’re a great parent, and they’re doing the best they can. We’re going to make them feel confident and give them the resources to keep their kids safe.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During inspections, technicians found 100 percent misuse among the seats checked, including 10 children who arrived completely unrestrained and 15 more riding with only a seat belt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The number of children younger than eight who were unrestrained at the time of a fatal crash in Texas grew from 30 to 40 percent<\/a> between 2023 to 2024. According to Texas A&M AgriLife, the program has not only saved lives but also delivered a measurable economic benefit of $149,120 to the community, reducing long-term medical costs and improving children\u2019s quality of life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daniel Peka and Alvine Dadgo, foreign exchange students from Cameroon, Africa, also attended the event. \u201cBack home, we don’t really have that tradition of having a car seat checked or even having a car seat in the car,\u201d Dadgo said, \u201cso for me, it\u2019s something really new.\u201d Peka, having been in College Station for two years, added, \u201cWe really appreciate this because the most important thing is to be in a safe environment. And when we are driving with the baby in the car, we are sure 100 percent that the kid is safe.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
