One such tool\u2014Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF)\u2014has come under legal and scientific scrutiny for its toxic effects. It has been widely used since the 1970s and was a staple in military bases, airports, industrial sites, and fire training facilities.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, AFFF contains per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as &#8220;forever chemicals,&#8221; which do not break down in the environment and have been linked to severe health conditions, including cancer and organ damage.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-who-is-at-risk-nbsp\"><strong>Who Is at Risk?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Individuals at higher risk due to prolonged AFFF exposure include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Firefighters and fire trainees&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Military service members and military firefighters&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Industrial and chemical plant workers&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Airport emergency responders&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Individuals living near PFAS-contaminated sites&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-what-are-the-consequences-of-afff-exposure-nbsp\"><strong>What Are the Consequences of AFFF Exposure?<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the serious health risks, AFFF contamination has also affected local water supplies, impacting entire communities. Residents near military bases, airports, and industrial sites have reported PFAS chemicals in their drinking water, raising concerns about long-term health risks for families who were never directly involved in firefighting but were still exposed to these dangerous substances.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because of its widespread use, thousands of people have been unknowingly exposed to toxic PFAS chemicals in AFFF, leading to severe health consequences.
