What Is Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF)?
Aqueous Film Forming Foam (AFFF), commonly referred to as firefighter foam, is a type of foam that fire departments use to fight liquid-based fires started by oil, gasoline, or other flammable liquids. It has been widely used since the 1970s and was a staple in military bases, airports, industrial sites, and fire training facilities.
Unfortunately, AFFF contains per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), also known as “forever chemicals,” which do not break down in the environment and have been linked to severe health conditions, including cancer and organ damage.
Who Is at Risk?
Individuals at higher risk due to prolonged AFFF exposure include:
- Firefighters and fire trainees
- Military service members and military firefighters
- Industrial and chemical plant workers
- Airport emergency responders
- Individuals living near PFAS-contaminated sites
What Are the Consequences of AFFF Exposure?
Because of its widespread use, thousands of people have been unknowingly exposed to toxic PFAS chemicals in AFFF, leading to severe health consequences. Examples include the following:
- Kidney cancer
- Testicular cancer
- Thyroid cancer
- Bladder cancer
- Ulcerative colitis
- Thyroid disease / Hypothyroidism
AFFF Lawsuits
If you were exposed to AFFF as a firefighter, military service member, industrial worker, or civilian, diagnosed with a certain cancer or another illness linked to PFAS exposure, or your loved one passed away from an AFFF-related illness, you have every right to take legal action against the manufacturers. Daniel Stark is currently accepting inquiries from anyone who believes they have been affected by AFFF exposure.
