Catastrophic injury car accident involving Texas A&M student in College Station | Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers

COLLEGE STATION, Texas โ€” What should have been some of the most exciting years of her life instead became a journey through hospitals, surgeries, and uncertainty after a driver failed to yield the right of way at a College Station intersection.

On October 11, 2023, a 20-year-old Texas A&M University student was traveling southbound on Wellborn Road when another driver attempted to turn left onto George Bush Drive West and entered her path. The resulting collision left her with catastrophic injuries that would require years of medical treatment and permanently alter the course of her young life.

The driver who caused the crash was cited for failing to yield the right of way while turning left.

Before the collision, the student was thriving. A junior at Texas A&M studying pre-law and psychology, she balanced a demanding academic schedule with involvement on the university’s mock trial team. She worked as a lifeguard and spent her free time hiking, playing sports, and enjoying an active lifestyle.

In an instant, that life changed.

The crash left her with severe orthopedic injuries, a traumatic brain injury, and long-term neurological complications. Over the next two years, she underwent multiple surgeries, including procedures to repair fractures in her right knee and left ankle, remove surgical hardware, address cartilage damage, and restore mobility lost as a result of her injuries.

Despite extensive treatment, her recovery remains ongoing.

She was later diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), a chronic condition that causes severe pain and hypersensitivity in her left leg. She also continues to experience partial paralysis in her left hand and cognitive impairments caused by her traumatic brain injury, including memory loss, brain fog, and difficulty concentrating.

She was forced to withdraw from classes, postpone taking the LSAT, and miss internship opportunities that were once part of her carefully planned future. Everyday academic tasks became significantly more difficult as she worked to overcome the cognitive challenges created by the crash.

Emotionally, she faced depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Many friendships faded during her recovery, leaving her feeling isolated during one of the most difficult periods of her life.

“We always talk about how much we value a client’s unique story โ€” this is exactly what we mean,” said attorney Chris Diamond of Daniel Stark Injury Lawyers. “This collision affected every aspect of her life: her education, her career plans, her relationships, and her vision for the future. We wanted the defense to understand the full impact of what had been taken from her.”

During mediation, Diamond presented the extensive evidence documenting her injuries, treatment, and future needs. A Life Care Plan prepared by her physician projected nearly $1 million in future medical expenses over her lifetime.

The case ultimately resolved through mediation for $2,126,273.

While no settlement can restore the opportunities, experiences, and years lost to recovery, the result provides financial resources to help ensure she receives the care and support she will need moving forward.

Today, she continues to pursue her education while navigating the lasting consequences of the crash. Her journey remains ongoing, but the resolution of her case represents an important step toward securing her future.
