Car crashes have been a leading cause of death among children for 20 years, with a child being involved in a crash every 25 seconds. Properly installing a car seat can reduce the risk of fatal injury by 71%. However, only 1 in 5 parents regularly check their child’s car seat for correct installation.

That’s why we’re partnering with Texas A&M AgriLife Extension and Save a Life Texas Department of Transportation to host our annual Car Seat Safety event. This event brings together trained technicians to teach parents how to correctly install car seats, provide free car seats to those in need, and ensure every child leaves safer than they arrived.

During your pre-scheduled appointment, AgriLife’s technicians will provide you with a free child car seat and assist you in installing and inspecting it at no cost!

The proper use of child safety seats reduces the risk of injury and death, leading to reduced medical costs, avoidance of lost future earnings, and improved quality of life after a collision. This adds up to an estimated $2,159 per child age 0 to 4, $2,606 per child age 4 to 7 for new seats distributed, and $622 per child for seat misuse corrected with an assumed 75% continued use.

Based on the estimations above, the total economic impact for the 204 inspections at the event on September 23rd, 2017, is $267,974.
